Currency unit is Turkish Lira, ₺ (Türk Lirası, TL). Introduced in 1923 replacing the Ottoman lira.
During the period of high inflation, the end of XX – beginning of XXI cc.. turkish lira depreciated strongly. From January 1, 2005, as a result of successful anti-inflationary measures, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey issued a “new Turkish lira”, which was equal to 1,000,000 old. From January 1, 2009, turnover includes new banknotes and coins. “New Turkish Lira”, which entered into circulation, after the denomination, has been replaced by “the Turkish lira.” Using of the “New Turkish Lira” ended in December 31, 2009.
